Webster Tastes Victory at National Advertising Awards

The industry establishment has once again smiled upon us. Our poster for the American Advertising Federation Omaha’s 2015 Ad Wars event has been awarded a Silver by the National Addy Advertising Awards. This piece was one of two from Nebraska to be bestowed and/or bequeathed such an honor. We look forward to (hopefully) celebrating a similar-if-possibly-more-golden award for the sequel to this poster promoting the 2016 Ad Wars, which was once again designed by Sean Heisler and written by Jason Fox.

Nebraska Addy Awards Rain Silver and Gold Upon Webster

This past Saturday, at the 2015-16 American Advertising Awards-Nebraska Show (and banquet!), three judges who usually look down upon our fair land from 30,000 feet awarded Webster with the following, um, awards:

  • Gold (x2) – WebsterDesign.com website
  • Gold – AAF Omaha Poster Series: AdWars
  • Silver – TBS Logo; AAF Omaha Poster Series: Miniature Golf, Bowling, Boom! Roasted

Cue Burl Ives.

Webster Animates the #HotRef of Super Bowl 50

To most of the world, Clete Blakeman is the NFL referee who shot to fame earlier this week leading the officiating crew for Super Bowl 50. A former college football player at the University of Nebraska, Clete has always taken good care of himself – a fact that did not go unnoticed in the Twitterverse, where the hashtag #hotref quickly took off after Clete led the coin toss. But to us, he is a friend and client. An attorney at Carlson & Burnett, Clete was featured in one of our animated spots for the firm. In retrospect, we should have made his animated doppelgänger more hunky. Sorry.

Webster Helps Fight Human Trafficking

The Coalition on Human Trafficking is a new non-profit organization dedicated to ending sex trafficking in the Omaha area. Working on behalf of the AAF Omaha and in collaboration with Angel Carl Marketing, we designed the CoHT’s logo, brand look and feel, and other creative assets (the official website is still in development). The work was revealed to the public at a press conference earlier today (January 27, 2016) featuring CoHT leadership, the mayor of Omaha, the city’s police chief, and members of the Nebraska Human Trafficking Task Force. We hope what we believe is some very good design work will help in the fight against some very evil activities.

Webster Helps Give TBS an Attitude Adjustment

When venerable cable channel TBS decided to reinvent themselves as the home of “ideas with attitude,” they called us. They also called several other places. But one of our designs won out in the end, and all was right with the world. The station will be rolling out different station ID bumpers featuring the logo throughout the end of 2015, so stay tuned. Or check here – we’ll update the project page from time to time as new pieces are released.

Webster Launches New Website

Three years is an eternity in internet time. But that’s nearly how long it had been since our last agency website went live. To prove we’d been paying attention to something more than cat videos during that time, we decided to once again become our own worst client and redo our web presence. And our logo. And our color palette. But we kept the dog.

We restructured the flow of information, focusing on major projects in the Work section while allowing intrepid explorers to peruse past work in the Vault (which may require another 33 years to fill up with 33 years’ worth of work). We hope to update the News section as frequently as possible since that will indicate good things are happening – although a lack of updates could also mean we’re exceptionally busy. Regardless, we hope you enjoy your visit to Webster’s corner of the web.

Giving an Historic Building a Modern Touch

For decades, Barnhart Press has occupied an historic building on Farnam Street in Omaha. Recently, they asked us to help them update their – for lack of a better phrase – curb appeal. We replaced their old-school (as in Cooper Black) entryway address lettering with a contemporary font and accent graphics. A few feet further down the facade, we added a multi-pane window graphic that speaks to Barnhart’s expertise while keeping passersby from sneaking a peek at the company’s front office operations.

Tradeshows

ConAgra Foods NACS Tradeshow Booth

Sure, we’ve produced hundreds of trade show displays, booths and even grander exhibits over the years, but pulling them off always comes down to two things: Attention to detail and flexibility. Getting all the pieces designed, fabricated and installed is itself an exercise in precision teamwork, and some challenge always crops up along the way – usually near the end (as in the day the show starts). But, we push onward, address whatever last-second requests arise, and keep the client smiling. Just like we did once again this year at the 2015 National Association of Convenience Stores show in lovely Las Vegas.

Webster Impresses the Graphis Judges Yet Again

We are proudly humble and/or humbly proud to announce that Webster has received one Gold and two Silver awards from the internationally acclaimed Graphis design magazine. Awarded for work done on behalf of the American Advertising Federation Omaha, Nebraska City and ourselves, all three projects appear in the 2016 Graphis Design Annual. This recognition extends our streak of appearing in the annual publication to 11 years.
